"27 Torch Gate "
Artist/architect: Harris Dimitropoulos
(b. Athens, Greece, 1954, r. Marietta, GA)
Located at the west end of the North Avenue Pedestrian Corridor, the North Avenue Interstate Bridge forms the gateway entrance to the Georgia Institute of Technology campus and what was the Olympic Village. Designed to enhance this prominent bridge, this installation includes 27 custom-designed “torchiere” lights integrated with a new freeway fence. Together they create a gateway to the Village along North Avenue, as well as to Atlanta’s downtown as one approaches along the freeway below.
MATERIALS: Aluminum, cable, luminaires
Lights vary from 15’ to 20’ in height along the length of the bridge
